Do you have an obsession?
Because I really do. One summer, I was hanging out with my amazing cousins and one of them started talking about Undertale. I didn't know what the heck she was talking about, but I wanted to. So, the moment I got the chance, I stole my mom's computer and watched Undertale playthrough videos.
(You can guess what happened next.)
And that's why I became super-obsessed with Undertale.
The thing is, my obsessions are nothing like the obsessions that my friends get. They'll be like, "Oh, this is cool." Then they'll go around for a few days mostly talking about the thing they like, watching videos about the thing they like, making references to the thing they like...etcetera. After a while, the obsession fades out. Eventually all they do is just make vague references now and then, the thing they like hardly ever on their mind.
That's not what my obsessions are like. When I'm obsessed, I do nothing but eat, sleep, and obsess over that thing. I spend every minute of my free time watching videos about my obsession. If I can't watch videos, I write about the thing I like. I draw stuff from the thing I like. Every single thought I have is completely dominated by my obsession. And nothing fades out.
The more I do related to my obsession, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I want to know. As my life goes along, I become more and more obsessed. A few weeks in, people start to think I'm seriously brain-damaged. Around two months afterward, my obsessions seemingly slowly fade out the way it is with most people.
But they still don't fade out. My thoughts are still there, and they're still about my obsession. A few years before I was obsessed with Undertale, I was obsessed with peanuts. Yes, peanuts. I still think about peanuts at the randomest times. shut up spellcheck, "randomest" is SO a word! or at least, it should be. My brain triggers one thing after another, and so when I'm supposed to be writing poetry about New Mexico, I'm thinking about peanuts.
That's that.
And so for ages now, I've been able to think about nothing but Undertale. Sometimes it's good, but 11:00 at night before you go to sleep is not the right time to be thinking about Flowey's pre-bossfight monologue on a Neutral Route. sorry flowey, but I mean, you told a KID that you would tear them to bloody pieces. that's not something you should really say to ten-year-old-looking kids.
Well, I mean, you know what?

WE PROUDLY PRESENT
✪ THE COLD PANCAKES GUIDE TO BEING ADDICTED ✪
✪ STEP ONE: Find something you really like. This could be anything from apple cores to Breath of the Wild.
✪ STEP TWO: Spend about two months being as obsessed with it as possible, by which I mean spend all your free time thinking about it, researching it, and talking about it. Your friends and family will probably freak out; this is normal.
✪ STEP THREE: Repeat Step Two for a very long time.
✪ STEP FOUR: After you get tired of Step Three, start letting your obsession fade out. BUT DON'T LET IT FADE OUT COMPLETELY. Just let it fade out very slowly one day after another.

✪ STEP FIVE: Keep being addicted in one shape or form.
✪ STEP SIX: Repeat Steps Four and Five for as long as possible.
✪ STEP SEVEN: That's it.
✪ STEP EIGHT: I just put this in here so that people with number OCD wouldn't blow up in my face. Not that anyone with number OCD (or anyone at all) actually reads my blog.
After you complete that, you WILL understand what it's REALLY like to be obsessed. Hopefully.
